The Science Behind ClearTract®

A Groundbreaking Surface Technology

Silq’s patented surface science has found a way to attach specialized molecules permanently to the catheter surface. These molecules are designed to create an extremely thin surface hydration layer, preventing the attachment of bacteria, fungus, and viruses.

Preventing Infections

Our strategy is to create a shield of water molecules over the catheter surface, preventing bacteria and fungi from finding a surface to colonize. Without a place to grow, these microbes are unable to survive long enough to cause an infection.

Effectiveness without Antibiotic Drugs

Antibiotic resistant superbugs are becoming a major global problem causing common antibiotics to become ineffective. Unlike the current approach of prescribing drugs before catheterization or embedding them within the catheter, our catheter is designed to prevent infections from forming, thus requiring reduced antibiotic intervention.

The Danger of Endotoxins

Most catheters on the market are made from latex. While patients may not realize it, latex catheters contain extremely high levels of endotoxins. As they leach out of the catheter, endotoxins can cause systemic inflammation and other complications that affect your overall health.

Understanding the Issues of Long Term Catheter Users

Our goal is for long-term users to try our product and see for themselves the difference it can make.

Encrustation - A problem

It lead to:

  • Urine leakage

  • Autonomic dysreflexia

  • Bladder stones

  • Increased chance of a febrile UTI

Worst case scenario

operating room, laser, put it out…

Chronic, long-term catheter users

  • disproportionately suffer from infections, blockages, renal inflammation, and many other life-affecting complications.

  • According to several studies, most patients who use a catheter for 1 year or longer report infections, emergency room visits, or severe discomfort (1, 2, 3).
